mrs. mabel g. anderson
gowrie -- mrs. mabel g. anderson, 82, died monday afternoon at trinity regional hospital, fort dodge. she had been in ill health for several weeks.

services will be 1:30 p.m. thursday at the palmer funeral home, gowrie, with burial at lost grove township cemetery.

surviving are children charles, of killeen, texas; mrs robert gibbs, des moines; mrs. russell petersen, gowrie; john b., storm lake; dr. virginia currey, arlington, texas; mrs. richard paulos, davenport; 20 grandchildren; and sister, mrs. r.c. huston, omaha, nebraska.

mabel johnson was born at geneseo, illinois and as a young girl moved with her family to lost grove township. she attended rural schools and also tobin college, fort dodge. she taught in rural schools in southern webster county and married paul h. anderson in 1916. they farmed in clay township. mr anderson died in 1963 and later that year mrs. anderson moved into gowrie.

mrs. anderson was a democratic precinct chairwoman for clay and gowrie townships for many years and served as an alternate delegate to the democratic national convention in 1952. she was a member of the gowrie federated women's club and the webster county garden club. mrs. anderson initiated planting the flower beds in the gowrie city parks and cared for them for 14 years. she was a secretary to the over sixty club in gowrie and in 1976 was appointed to the webster county jury commission.
