charles worked in the newspaper business. before
the war, and for a little while after, he worked
for the daily capital journal in pierre south
dakota. he had his own column on local
interest.
later while sister polly & her husband bob
were living in coralville they let him know about
an opening at the iowa city press citizen. he
applied and got the job. he worked there for a few
years beginning about1953. then he went out to ida
grove iowa. and then onto sioux city. he worked as
editor for a section of the paper.
then he dolly moved to dallas texas and he
worked as the sunday editor for the dallas tribune.
he worked there until he retired. they built an a
frame house north of austin. dolly decided to go
back to school and work on her masters in
nursing.
later they sold the house and moved to
russellville arkansas so that dolly could continue
schooling. they were living there when charles died
in 1981. eventually dolly moved back to fort
dodge.
